The Annual Holiday Lights Event GLOW returns to Santa Fe Botanical Garden
SANTA FE, NM – Thanksgiving leftovers are finished, the farolitos have begun to pop up on rooftops – it must be the holiday season! GLOW, the Santa Fe Botanical Garden’s annual holiday lights event returns December 14th through 31st, featuring twinkle lights, lasers, and large-scale light installations, nightly music from local musicians, and nature-inspired activities for children.
The theme to this year’s illumination extravaganza is “Cosmic Nights!” and things have gotten pretty cosmic, indeed. For the first time in GLOW’s six-year history, the Santa Fe Botanical Garden has partnered with a local school to create an installation that is out-of-this-world. The Santa Fe Waldorf School held a grade-level competition presenting ideas for a large-scale installation in the Orchard Garden in the Spring of 2018. The winning team was selected by a panel of judges to build “Cat’s Cradle.” This more than 30×30 ft installation covers the entire orchard garden, and features a colorful grid-plane inspired by models of the solar system.
Additional featured artists include Christopher Short and his LED installations inspired by agave plants, and Victoria Rabinowe’s Spirit Poles.
A treasured highlight of GLOW is nightly live music by local musicians. The musical talent is rich and diverse in New Mexico, and each night features a different genre of music, from mariachi to folk to honky-tonk. A full list of performers is below.
For the kiddos, GLOW has delighted families for years, and this year will not disappoint. The Children’s Activity tent features nature-inspired arts & craft projects, like wish cups, winter wands, bird feeders, and more. From December 14-23, Santa will listen to all of those holiday wishes before his busiest day of the year. Families are also invited to spend New Year’s Eve at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden. A countdown to “midnight” will occur at 7pm with a flower petal drop, so families can enjoy the spirit of the holiday, without staying up until midnight!
Tickets to the event are currently on-sale, and are $10 for the general public and free entry for any child under the age of 12. Tickets can be purchased at
