Join the Santa Fe Botanical Garden and hike leader Ken Collins on this moderate 4-mile (round trip) hike from Battleship Rock to McCauley Warm Springs and back. Battleship Rock, our trailhead, is a distinctive formation on the section along Highway 4 after it has turned south towards the village of Jemez Springs. Our destination is McCauley Warm Springs, a popular spot for a warm dip on a chilly day. Given the time of the year, it is essential to bring rain gear, as well as water, lunch, and sunscreen. Generally biting insects are not a problem.
We will meet in the parking lot of the Santa Fe Botanical Garden and leave in a carpool by 9:00 AM. Trekking poles and sturdy foot ware are strongly recommended. Your payment for this hike will be used to reimburse any drivers for gas used for this trip. You will also be provided a light snack after the hike.
About your Guide: Ken Collins is a long-time member of the Santa Fe Botanical Garden and until recently was on the Board of Directors. He has been an active gardener all of his life, has been for many years, a guide at the Crested Butte (CO) Wildflower Festival, and is a day hike leader for the local chapter of the Sierra Club. He knows many of the trails in the Santa Fe and the Northern New Mexico area very well.
