Wilderness Acts 2018 exhibition explores the relationship between art and nature, creates awareness of our local natural resources, and promotes wetland and ecological conservation.
Thirteen artists have created ephemeral sculptural artworks using natural wild-crafted materials in various sites throughout Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve in La Cienega. Work was created during the months leading up to September 2018 and will be on view at the preserve throughout the months of September and October. This is the third iteration of the Wilderness Acts Biennial, which began in 2014.
A companion exhibition of related works by the same artists will open in the Axle Contemporary mobile gallery. The mobile gallery will exhibit in public spaces around Santa Fe and visit local schools (elementary, high-school and university) where the curators and participating artists will speak about the exhibition and related topics to the students.
Participating Artists include Rick Yoshimoto and Chrissie Orr, Gina Telcocci, Cannupa Hanska Luger and Ian Kuali’i, Dana Chodzko, Brian Fleetwood, Paula Castillo, Kathleen McCloud, Susanna Carlisle and Bruce Hamilton, Munson Hunt, Frederick Spaulding, Susannah Abbey, and Susan Bruneni.
