Trees are typically the largest and longest lived components in a landscape, serving many roles over time. They should be chosen and sited with care so they can achieve their long term potential. Tracy Neal will discuss:

  • Deciduous vs. evergreen trees
  • How fast trees grow and how big they get in Santa Fe
  • What trees need in order to grow well here
  • How to properly plant trees and avoid potential future problems
  • Some of the best trees for Santa Fe
  • and which common trees we should avoid or use with caution.

Tracy Neal moved to Santa Fe in 1986 to run the nursery at Santa Fe Greenhouses. While there he introduced many new and under-utilized plants to the Santa Fe market. In 1995 he co-founded a local landscaping company. His landscape work included everything from small gardens in town to large country estates. He now works as a private consultant and teacher and also serves on the Municipal Tree Board for the City of Santa Fe.
