School Programs
Fall and Spring field trip requests are open for the 2023/2024 school year.
Bring your students to the Santa Fe Botanical Garden to engage directly with the natural world. Garden educators will lead your students through hands-on experiences that will inspire a sense of wonder and instill a deep understanding of their connection with nature.
- Educator-led field trips are scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10AM ONLY.
- Fall season: September, after Labor Day up to the last week of October.
- Spring season: First week of April until last week of May.
- Reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis and subject to availability.
- Schools are responsible for booking their own transportation.
- Scholarships are available for Title 1 schools, grades 3rd-5th
- Fee pays for, admission, educators time, supplies and materials for up to 40 students.
- Maximum number of students per day/field trip: 40
- Field trip requests must be made at least 2 weeks in advance of the date requested.

Kindergarten
Know Your Neighbors: Who lives in the Garden?
Students will explore the garden through hands-on activities to learn about the plants and animals that live in and around the Botanical Garden. Sensory lessons will help students understand how plants and animals use natural resources to survive in their habitat.

1st Grade
The Secret Life of a Plant
Does a cactus have parents? Do sunflowers go on vacation? Let’s ask them! Students will learn through hands-on activities how plants survive day to day from predators, heat and drought.

2nd Grade
Pollinators: The Buzz about Bees
Did you know there are more than 1,000 native species of bees in New Mexico? Students will explore through hands-on activities how plants, people and animals can help bees and other pollinators survive.

3rd Grade
Survivor – Wildlife Edition
Students will learn what happens to plants and animals when the environment or their habitat changes. Adaptation is the key to survival! Students will participate in fun hands-on games and activities.

Wild New Mexico: Mammal Mania
Coyote and Bobcats and Bears, Oh My! What senses and adaptations do the mammals use in New Mexico to survive the climate and people!
Students will learn about how mammals have adapted to survive.

5th Grade
Eco-Scientists
Students will step into the role of scientists as they investigate how energy moves around an ecosystem. They will learn about the interactions that occur with all living things from plants, animals and decomposers.

6th Grade
Catching Some Rays
Students will explore through hands-on activities the plant cellular system, the process of photosynthesis, and their unique plant structures that help them survive.

7th Grade
Soil Scientists Dig Dirt!
Students will learn about types of soil and discover how the presence of different elements can contribute to soil health, and the local New Mexico geology.

8th Grade
Earth to Humans, are you listening?
Students will explore and discuss data about human activity and its impact on the planet’s natural resources along with the bigger issue of climate change.

9th-12 Grade
Teachers lead students through the Orchard Gardens, the ethnobotanical Ojos y Manos: Eyes and Hands Garden and the Piñon-Juniper Woodland.
