With all of the wonderful winter weather this season, the Santa Fe Botanical Garden staff and volunteers have been keeping busy! We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to our fearless Snow Team, who selflessly donate their time and efforts to help clear the paths for us whenever the weather hits.

Made up of 12 volunteers and various staff members, we couldn’t remain open at all in the winter without them. So far this season, this team has donated over 45 hours of their time, over the course of 13 days and the value of this is well over $1000 of labor! We are so grateful for the time spent and the huge amount of money that the Garden has been able to save on snow removals because of this team. There’s snowplace as magical as SFBG after a big winter storm, and this team helps ensure that our guests can enjoy their visit safely.

Just listen to what our volunteer Mike Davis has to say! Mike just started volunteering in 2023, and has already become one of our most helpful volunteers.

“If there’s an Olympic Snow Shoveling competition, we’re contenders! We typically get an alert a day or so in advance of a storm, then converge for an hour or two with our shovels in-hand. It’s rewarding to see the paths cleared for visitors and crew and fun to catch up with fellow team members. Volunteering on the Snow Crew is a great way to support the garden, particularly for those with flexible schedules. – Cheers from the Abominable Snow Mike ☃

Thank you!

Meet the “Beast” our beloved electric snow blower

Thanks to a generous donation, there’s a new powerful addition to the team – a magnificent electric snow blower! Early in the snowy mornings, our incredible facilities custodian Donald Medina, is out doing the first clearing of all our paths. Thank you Donald!
